FA Cup: West Didsbury & Chorlton 1-3 Avro

Avro won their first ever FA Cup game at their third attempt, defeating West Didsbury & Chorlton 3-1 thanks to a Louis Potts hat-trick.

Avro came into this game having never played an away FA Cup game.

Ten minutes into the game, Avro won a free-kick outside the box, Jack Tuohy stepped up, whipped it in and after West wasted multiple chances to clear it, Louis Potts hit it on the half-volley and into the far corner, giving the keeper a 1 in 10 chance of saving it.

Avro kept attacking, Potts, again getting on the end of a Wallwork pass, forcing their keeper to make a save before punching it over the bar.

From the resulting corner, Potts rose about everyone else to head it into the far corner to put Avro 2-0 up after 18 minutes.

West began to fight back, winning free-kicks here and there but not really doing much, and the first half fizzed out with the score 2-0 to Avro.

West came out in the 2nd half looking like a better side than they did in the first half, they created a half chance when they went round an Avro man and hit the sidenetting.

The next 20 minutes consisted of them having possession but not having that final 10% to create a good chance and get the ball in the back of the net.

Potts nearly scored his third thanks to a good Wallwork run down the left, just before West won a free-kick and scored thanks to a good finish to make it 2-1.

Their goal clearly gave them a boost as they nearly made it 2-2 but Latham got down and made a good save after their striker ran through.

But it wasn’t to be for West as Potts finally secured his hat-trick thanks to a good finish from outside the box.
