Reports in The Mirror claim that Ed Woodward is preparing to back UEFA Champions League reforms.

Woodward told investors on Thursday evening during the club’s latest financial call that it offers the club a bigger role in the “governance and control” of the competition.

Woodward is a board member of the European Club Association and has been involved in talks with European football’s governing body over the reforms.

Negotiations have been carried out alongside continued speculation over the creation of a European Super League if alterations to the Champions League aren’t made.

Woodward said:

“While many details are yet to be resolved, we look forward to seeing the full final proposal from UEFA that we anticipate will include a greater involvement of clubs in the governance and control of the competitions.”

United in Europe

Man United's history in the competition has been quite varied since it started in the 1950's.

Their last success in the competition came in 2008, after they beat Chelsea in the final.
