Q and A With Chadderton FC

We spoke with Carl Taylor, Joint 1st Team Manager at Chadderton FC, in the next of our series which looks at the heroes that keep our non league clubs going.

Chadderton FC play in the North West Counties League Division One North. Let's find out more...

Q) What's the best thing about Non League football?

The People that are involved in running Non-League clubs are the best thing about Non-League. There are a lot of volunteers that give up their time to make sure the clubs run smoothly, including fund raising and ground maintenance. They are the unsung hero’s of non-league football.

Q) Who do you support outside of Chadderton FC?

Personally, I’m a devoted Liverpool fan. I also want Oldham Athletic to do well, when they do, it really gives the town a big lift.

Q) How did you get involved with the club?

Myself & Ben Greenidge were appointed Managers of the club alongside Mark Cook as our assistant manager at the start of the season.

Q) How has the pandemic impacted the club?

The Pandemic has had a major impact on the club, not only loss of revenue which has affected progress off the pitch, it’s taken a mental toll on the players & officials around the club. Football is part of our weekly life and takes away all the stresses we have which is released for a few hours on a Saturday afternoon.

Our club has some great people behind the scenes so we will bounce back, but it will take some time to get over the time missed & two seasons effectively cancelled.

Q) How can people get involved with the club?

Initially they can contact us via our website or social media page to enquire which also has an email address. We are always looking for volunteers to help out or coaches to help out from our Junior teams right through to open age.

Q) What are your aims for the next few seasons?

From a 1st team perspective we want to build a team that is competitive in the league. We know there are teams in this league with decent budgets to pay players so it’s always going to be tough for Chadderton to compete with that, but we believe we can build a strong enough team to be competitive over the next few years.

Our club has started to build a strong footing off the pitch with the new extension & refit of the club house which will allow the club to be self sustainable once complete. Moving forward and for years to come we aim to improve the offering at the football club not just for the supporters but for the local community to have access to our new facilities.

 Q) What other teams does the club operate?

We operate Junior teams ranging from Under 8’s to under 18’s right through to our reserve team who play in the Manchester Premier league - Step 7 and our 1st team in the North West Counties 1st Division - Step 6
