City were holding a 2-1 lead from the first leg but found themselves needing to chase the tie when 17-year-old England international Jude Bellingham curled in a superb shot from the edge of the box.

The crucial breakthrough for the blues came early in the second half as Emre Can was penalised for a hand ball in the box.  Mahrez stepped up to fire his side ahead again in the tie.

Phil Foden then sealed it. He added to the late goal he scored at the Etihad to give his side their first-leg lead.

This is the first time that Manchester City have reached the semi finals under Pep Guardiola. He won the competition twice during his time as manager of Barcelona.

The last time City reached this stage of the competition was in 2016. On that occasion, they were knocked out by Real Madrid.
