Manchester United 3 - 0 Barcelona: 1984

An amazing night at Old Trafford and a game that is often remembered as having the greatest atmosphere heard at Old Trafford.

Manchester United lost the first leg of the 1984 Cup Winners Cup Quarter Final 2-0.

A Barcelona side, featuring Diego Maradona, were expected to comfortably hold out on the night.

Norman Whiteside nodded on Ray Wilkins corner for Bryan Robson to score with a diving header at the far post for United's opener. They then scored twice in three minutes early in the second half.

United successfully held out after a nervy last few minutes and the game is fondly remembered by all those who play the game.

What do people say about the game?

In 2014, Arthur Albiston told the Guardian: "The atmosphere inside Old Trafford that night as the most intense he has ever experienced."

One United fan was asked on Twitter about his favourite United, he replied: "A bit obvious but United versus Barca 1984, cried like a good one !!"
