Manchester United took a giant step to the Europa League final after a 6-2 thrashing of Roma at Old Trafford
Two goals from Bruno Fernandes and Edinson Cavani helped Manchester United take a giant step towards next month's Europa League final.
Fernandes had given United the perfect start but a penalty from Pellegrini and tap-in from former Manchester City forward Edin Dzeko saw Roma take a 2-1 lead.
United rallied after half-time. Cavani levelled with a superb effort before tapping the hosts back in front when substitute keeper Mirante pushed Aaron Wan-Bissaka's shot into his path.
The reds were in no mood to let their advantage slip again, although it took a fortunate penalty for what seemed to be an innocuous tackle from former United defender Chris Smalling on Cavani to give Fernandes the chance add a fourth from the penalty spot.
Paul Pogba then got in on the act with a powerful header from Fernandes' cross before Greenwood drove home United's sixth.
What stat?
Manchester United became the first side to score six goals in a major European semi-final since Real Madrid in the 1964 European Cup.
Flashback for Roma fans
United's second half performance probably brought painful memories from their 7-1 defeat at Old Trafford in 2007.

Solskjaer says
The United manager told BT Sport:
"We did well but we know they have quality - the second half was very good.
"That's a very good team, it worked really good against Tottenham. Mason Greenwood should be disappointed not to be playing but it's about balance. We know we have got creative players who can create big moments.
"Paul Pogba's position today was very good in that position, he's allowed some freedom. He's got the foundation behind him. The difference today is we took most of our chances.
"The character showed that they came back and didn't lose their heads. Maybe five or 10 minutes at the end of the first half we didn't look great, but we got ourselves together. The two goals are junior, schoolboy errors that shouldn't happen at this level."
Next up for Manchester United
United face Liverpool on Sunday and will need a win to maintain any mathematical chance of winning the title.
The pre-match discussion will more than likely be dominated by a planned protest by Manchester United fans.
