Early career

Colin Bell began his career at Bury where he was quickly made captain. In total, Bell made 82 league appearances for Bury (in three seasons) and scored 25 goals.

Signing for City 

Bell signed for City during the 1965/1966 season and helped his club earn promotion into the top-flight. After just two seasons, they were First Division champions and Bell scored 14 goals during this campaign.

Success in Europe

In 1970, City had their first and only success in Europe. Bell played a huge part in this triumph and scored in a 5-1 semi-final win over Schalke. 

During the 1969/1970 season, when City also won the League Cup, he scored 21 goals. This was his best return for the club.

Bell left City at the end of the 1978/1979 season. He finished his career with San Jose Earthquakes. During his career, he won the following trophies:

  • Football League First Division: 1967–68
  • Football League Second Division: 1965–66
  • FA Cup: 1968–69
  • Football League Cup: 1969–70,1975–76
  • European Cup Winners' Cup: 1969–70

Death

Bell sadly passed away in January 2021. Tributes from Man City fans all over the world paid tribute to him. A club statement said:

"Few players have left such an indelible mark on City."
