England's campaign got off to a great start as Raheem Sterling's goal secured victory over Croatia.
Sterling repaid England manager Gareth Southgate's faith in him, scoring just before the hour mark following a perfect pass from man-of-the-match Kalvin Phillips.
The England manager resisted the temptation to play Jack Grealish and was rewarded with a superb performance from Sterling as England secured the win their superiority deserved.
England almost took an early lead when Phil Foden struck a post but there were the first signs of frustration from fans and players just before Sterling scored the decisive goal. This was his first goal in a major tournament.
Agonisingly close from Phil Foden.

This goal and performance marks the end of a great week for Sterling. Earlier in the week, he became an MBE for his services to fighting racism in sport.

Next up for England is a game against Scotland, a draw in that game would almost certainly seal qualification for the last 16.
