Pre-Season: Oldham Athletic 1 - 2 Wigan Athletic

Two early goals for Wigan Athletic was enough to seal their victory at Boundary Park.

On an uncharacteristically warm day, Wigan began the encounter strongly as they took the lead after just eight minutes. Callum Lang had the skill and vision to backheel it to Stephen Humphrys inside the area before the attacker laid the ball to Gwion Edwards and he smashed into the top corner.

Within a few minutes, Leam Richardson’s side doubled their advantage when Humphrys, recently signed from Rochdale, drilled a free-kick straight at the goalkeeper, however, one of Wigan's trialists dropped the ball inside the box and Lang reacted sharply to blast into the back of the net.

Wigan will be hoping that this pre-season win is a sign of things to come. Their last two seasons have been marred by massive financial problems. Below were the scenes that occurred when they sealed survival and another season in League One.

For Oldham, despite the result, it was a decent run-out for their players and an opportunity for Keith Curle to cast an eye over some potential new additions to the club.
