FA Cup: Avro get replay against Runcorn Linnets

Avro earned themselves an FA Cup replay away at 8th tier Runcorn Linnets thanks to a Liam Ellis goal.

Avro responded and stopped the game being over before it had even started as they began to have periods of domination during the first half.

Runcorn weren’t without their chances though, as Latham was forced to make some good saves on numerous occasions, including one just after the aforementioned chance.

Runcorn began the game the better of the two sides, as Avro found it hard to find their place in the game and Runcorn took full advantage of this 10 minutes into the game when they scored via a deflection off an Avro player.

Liam Ellis had a good chance thanks to a Danny Byrnes cross but Ellis shot wide.

Wallwork won a free-kick on the edge of the box and very nearly scored from it, just hitting the side netting. He then created another good chance for his side, giving the ball to Ellis who layed it off for Potts who shot but it went just over the bar.

Avro went into half-time 1-0 down but with the second half still to play for.

5 minutes into the second half, Potts shot from outside the box and expected the keeper to make an easy save - the keeper, instead, spilled it into the path of Liam Ellis who slotted it past the stranded keeper to make it all square at the Vestacare.

Avro very nearly went ahead a few minutes later, Byrnes playing a wonderful through for Liam Ellis who scored, but was denied his second goal of the game by the linesman who flagged for offside.

Avro were really on top in the second half and looked likely to score another, but just couldn’t find a second goal. At the other end, Latham kept up his first half performance by pulling off numerous saves, including an incredible save of a curling Runcorn shot in the dying minutes of the game.

The full-time whistle went and it was 1-1 between Avro and Runcorn Linnets.

Both teams will now play a replay away at Runcorn Linnets on Tuesday 24th August.
