FA Cup: Runcorn Linnets 4-1 Avro

Avro exited the FA Cup at the Preliminary Round after losing 4-1 to Runcorn Linnets.

Kai Haigh was substituted early on the game after picking up a injury, Jack Morrow came on in his place

Avro had some good chances in the first half, Danny Byrnes finding himself inside the box and forcing the keeper to make a good save.

Another was when Potts was let loose down the left, gave it to Byrnes who was tackled just before he could get a shot off.

Runcorn nearly scored a screamer from 35 yards from a loose ball but it went just over the bar.

Wallwork made a good run past 3 Runcorn players before being hacked down just outside the box and winning a free-kick.

Potts stepped up but it hit the wall and Runcorn retained possession. Liam Ellis then put in a good cross from the right for Wallwork who got his head to it just for it to go over the bar.

Runcorn had their best chance of the game just before half-time when they put in a cross from the right and got a diving head to the ball but it went just wide.

At half-time, the score was 0-0.

Shortly after the second half began, Bailey Sloane hit a free-kick and forced the keeper into making a good save - the ball pinballed around the box before being shot wide.

Runcorn then began to dominate during spells of the second half, forcing Latham to make good saves on numerous occasions.

But Avro still had their chances, one being from Liam Ellis who found space down the left and fought off two Runcorn defenders to get a shot away which was saved by the Runcorn keeper.

Pickford found himself on the edge of the box, shifted onto his left foot to get a shot away just to see it wide.

Then Runcorn won a penalty after their attacker made a diving run into the box and went down. Iwan Murray stepped up and fired the ball into the bottom corner, giving Latham no chance.

Avro had just 5 minutes to find a goal. Then, with the full-time whistle looming, deep into injury time, the ball fell to Louis Potts 40 yards out, he hit it with his right foot and saw it fly into the top right corner, sending the Avro fans wild and giving the Runcorn fans that gut wrenching feeling from a last minute equaliser.

The referee blew for full-time not long after, and 30 minutes of extra time began.

Runcorn came out and scored not long after the first half of extra time began, leaving Avro chasing the game again, and they scored two more during extra time as they capitalised on tired Avro legs after 120 minutes of football.
