Avro start season with comfortable win

Avro opened the 2021/22 NWCFL season with a 3-0 win against Padiham.

Avro took to the field for a NWCFL game for the first time in 217 days, the last being the 5-0 thumping of Irlam at home on Boxing Day 2020.

The game began quite slow as neither side really created anything during the first 20 minutes, the first real chance came from a free-kick which was won by debutant Jake Cottrell - Jack Tuohy whipped in a good ball from the free-kick but Lewis Lacy just couldn’t get his head on it.

The game began to heat up from this point, and it was mainly Avro who were creating chances. Kane Wallwork put Avro 1-0 up when he intercepted a sloppy Padiham pass, hit it with his left before the keeper tried to save it with his legs but could only deflect it straight to the bottom corner.

Avro went in at half-time 1-0 up. Padiham won a free-kick almost immediately after the second half started, they swung it into the box and their man got a good head on it, but it went just over the bar.

Avro scored their second of the game thanks to Louis Potts. Jack Tuohy ran down the right, put the ball in the 6-yard box and Potts only had to get a touch on it to make it 2-0.

Avro began to absolutely dominate Padiham, looking like they could score with every chance they created.

Danny Byrnes went past two men before shooting over the bar from a tight angle.

Ryan Pickford tried to recreate his curling goal against Radcliffe, but the keeper dived and made a good save.

Louis Potts got his 2nd and Avro’s 3rd when, in a similar fashion to his first goal, Jack Poxon found himself inside the box down the right hand side and gave it to Potts who slotted it into the goal.

Danny Byrnes nearly helped Avro score another when he mugged off Teal Amos by scooping the ball through his legs, but nothing came of the subsequent pass.

Kyle Jacobs tried to chip in with a goal with a thunderous shot towards the end of the game but the keeper made an easy save.
