Avro FC announce partnership with Onward Homes

Avro FC have recently to announce a partnership deal with leading North West housing provider, Onward Homes.

Onward, who provide quality homes for affordable rent throughout Oldham, has given Avro a total of £3,500 from its Community Fund, which aims to support local groups and projects to make a positive difference in their community.

Head of Operations, Charlie O'Brien said "It such a pleasure to have scored on this valuable funding from Onward Homes, through this we have managed to put in place three community projects. These display our continued commitment to the local community here at Avro FC, in the Limeside area.

"We aim to continue to evolve and develop for the good of our community as well as our club. We have some exciting projects happening, and others to look forward to - I look forward to working with Shoab and the team at Onward homes going forward."

The money will be invested directly back into their local community and will be used to help set up a number of football-related groups hosted at the Vestacre Stadium.

The Wildcats are Avro's local girls’ team that has the aim of getting more girls at primary school level into football. With the help of Onward, they have been able to provide good coaching quality and equipment for the Wildcats to start their footballing journey in the best way possible.

Our Future Stars team is for boys under six in the local area as a way of introducing them to football at a young age. This has been very popular, and the funding will help this team remain for years to come.

The Kick Forward programme is dedicated to reducing anti-social behaviour in the local area through football, by giving local children the opportunity to play using our facilities.

They also plan to build a community garden at The Vestacare Stadium which will be paid for by the fund. The garden will be available to everyone to use and benefit from.

Shoab Akhtar, social investment specialist at Onward, added: “We’re always looking for ways to make a positive difference in our local communities, and our Community Fund is just one of the initiatives that helps us do this.

“Avro already has some of the best community facilities in the local area and the funding from Onward will help ensure that local young people can stay active and continue to participate in football sessions, while the new community garden will create some important volunteering opportunities.”
