North West Counties: Avro 2 - 0 Macclesfield

Avro climbed up to 5th in the NWCFL Premier Division table after an amazing 2-0 win over table toppers Macclesfield.

Avro went 1-0 up after just 4 minutes when Liam Ellis worked well to give Louis Potts the ball who ran past a defender and calmly put it past Ashton in the Macclesfield goal.

Potts’ goal after 4 minutes is the 4th time in 5 games that Avro have scored in the first 10 minutes.

Macclesfield did up their tempo a bit following Avro’s goal, but they just couldn’t put the ball in a dangerous position on multiple occasions.

They did have a spell around the 15 minute mark when the ball was cleared off the line and a good shot fired off the post, but apart from that, they didn’t do much in the first half.

Avro, on the other hand, were fantastic and really should have scored more than 1 in the first half, Cottrell and Sloane put in numerous free-kicks which found the heads of Avro players but they couldn’t put them past the keeper.

Sloane nearly scored his second goal of the season when he and Ellis linked up well down the left, gave the ball to Sloane in the box but he couldn’t score from such a tight angle.

Half-time Avro 1-0 Macclesfield

Avro went 2-0 up when Joe Rathbone chased down a ball that was played over the top, the Macclesfield keeper came to the ball just outside the box, failed to control it and Rathbone took it off him and passed it into the goal.

Liam Ellis nearly made it three just a few minutes later when he was 1 on 1 with the keeper, shot on the edge of the box before the keeper made a good save with his legs.

Avro kept up the pressure and Macclesfield never really got going in anyway during the second half.

Fenton Reeves came on with 25 minutes to go in place of Kane Wallwork to make his Avro debut.

Jordan Latham had to make a few saves late on but overall it was a quiet night for Latham.

Oumar Camara tried to dink the keeper with 5 minutes left but he saw what he was doing and made an easy save.
